French Open Tips: Bernd Wiesberger

Bids to defend a title he won in fine style last year. Tee-to-green in good shape and ranked second for GIRs last week.

Bernd Wiesberger bids to retain his French Open title this week and the Austrian could follow in the footsteps of Graeme McDowell and double up at the event.

Last year he was fantastic, winning by three shots from James Morrison but finishing a hefty nine shots in front of those tied for sixth.

Wiesberger’s victory was built on good driving (long and relatively straight) and hitting plenty of greens, 81.9% to be precise. That part of the game is working well again.

Last week in Germany he hit 84.7% of GIRs (ranked second) and it was a similar story in Austria (81.9% GIRs; ranked third). Wiesberger finished in the top-10 for both events but he didn’t threaten to win which means his price is a bit better than his play warrants.

At 30/1 (Bet365), he is a solid each-way bet.
