Open De Espana: Renato Paratore

Finishing season strongly with two top-20s in last five starts. Been riding high in the strokes gained tee-to-green statistics at the Dunhill Links and European Open despite missing cut.

Beyond Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia there is very little strength in depth to the Open De Espana and therefore i’m taking a bit of a punt on a player to sneak a place at worst at a healthy price. Charlie Saxon and Jack Singh Brar both entered my thinking on purely ability plus price but neither have much recent form to their name so i’m playing it slightly safer with Renato Paratore.

The young Italian is enjoying a strong finish to the season and in his last five starts has finished 20-12-MC-41-61 with a missed cut at the European Open actually being better than the bare form as he was 26th in strokes gained tee-to-green but made nothing on the greens. It was a similair story last week in Scotland where he was 28th in strokes gained tee-to-green but again lost out on the greens.

Paratore is potentially playing better than his results (although data from the European Tour website isn’t 100% reliable) and could spring a minor shock at 80/1 with Betfair paying 7 places at 1/5 odds.
