Mayakoba Classic Tip: JJ Spaun

Excellent approach play should create plenty of birdie opportunities and has finished T28-T14 on last two visits to El Camaleón. Arrives in good form after consecutive top-15s on tour.

There’s been an early move for JJ Spaun in the market and it’s easy to see why. He’s made his last nine cuts and has finished T10-T15 on his last two starts. The Californian is a player who has been on my radar for a while now. He blitzed through the PGA Tour Canada in 2015, with an absurdly low scoring average and did something similair on the the Web.com Tour in 2016.

Unfortunately his PGA Tour career has been interrupted by injury but he’s fit and healthy again and is getting a good run of tournaments under his belt.

Straight off the tee, he has the game for El Camaleón Golf Club and that is evidenced in his T28-T14 finishes at this event. A terrific approach player (ranked 33rd in strokes last season) he will should create plenty of birdie opportunites with his irons.

Throw in a T17 at the Puerto Rico Open (also on Seashore Paspalum) and there is plenty to like about Spaun this week.
