Scandinavian Invitational: Jack Singh Brar

On the cusp of contending at Czech Masters and starting to string together good results. Strength is accuracy and GIRs and that was more important than power at Hills course last year.

The Nordea Masters has been rebranded the Scandinavian Invitational but we returns to the Hills Golf & Sports Club in Gothenburg for the second year running. Last year’s renewal was won by Paul Waring but the statistics made for interesting reading.

The top-10 and ties had a mean rank of 39th for driving distance and 32nd for driving accuracy, which suggests the advantage bombers usually enjoy is negated on this layout. That means we can cast the net wider than usual.

Jack Sing Brar started the year as one of the rookies to watch on the European Tour and he’s starting to make some headway on leader-boards. In his last four starts he’s finished 15-50-62-14 and looks ready to contend in Sweden.

Last Sunday at the the Czech Masters he had an outside chance of a win but couldn’t hold it together during the final round but it’s these sort of experiences that rookies really learn from. Sing Brar should also benefit from the more challenging nature of the Hills course. He is ranked in the top-30 on tour for bogey avoidance, driving accuracy and GIRs. This along with Crans-sur-Sierre next week therefore look like ideal tests.
