The Golf Outsider: Lyoness Open

Our long-shots expert has three players to looks out for at the Lyoness Open.

The Diamond Country Club in Austria hosts the Lyoness Open for the fourth year in a row. Bernd Wiesberger is favourite to defend his title but we have three lively outsiders to take him on.

Lyoness Open Selections

At 44 years of age, Thomas Levet is a veteran of the European Tour but he’s not one to write-off quite yet. The Frenchmen has won a tournament in three of the last five seasons and although his recent form is nothing special he finished T2 here last year.

After a couple of injury blighted seasons, Seve Benson is back on the European Tour and his career is on the up. The 26-year-old has four top-25 finishes this season, with an impressive T5 at the Madeira Open last month. One of the best drivers on tour, he should gobble up the four par-5s on the course.

The bookmakers have overreacted to consecutive missed cuts from Robert-Jan Derksen - overall he is enjoying an excellent season. The Dutch golfer has made 9/12 cuts and finished T12 here last year.
