KLM Open: Christian Nilsson

Last year's runner up

Runner-up last year and over priced for a man with a good short game.

The KLM Open returns to Hilversumsche Golf Club for the second year in a row and I’m surprised to see last year’s runner-up Christian Nilsson at 125/1. The 32 year-old Swede shot four rounds in the 60s last year and only found Martin Kaymer too good. Hopefully a return to the Netherlands can bring back some happy memories.

The course used for the KLM Open is a tricky par-70. Although not especially long there are plenty of places where bogeys can creep onto the card. It is no surprise to see recent course winners: Kaymer (10) and Lynn (04) both ranked inside the top-30 on tour for scrambling.

This reliance on scrambling is good news for Nilsson. Blessed with a strong short game, he ranks 16th on tour for making par or better when missing the green.

Recent form is also nothing to be concerned about; he has finished in the top 40 in five of his last six tournaments. The field is stronger than usual European Tour events, but at the price, Nilsson has to be in our portfolio. Back him each way for ¼ odds for a top five finish.
