John Deere Classic Tips: Mark Anderson

Ranks 37th on tour for birdie average and we saw at the Greenbrier how the lesser lights can spring a surprise.

Last week we saw Ted Potter Jr. come from nowhere to win the Greenbrier Classic and in the process prove outsiders can win on the PGA Tour.

Inspired by his victory I think it is worth having a small wager on Mark Anderson at 750/1 (Bet365).

The 26-year-old from Maryland might look like a no-hoper having missed his last seven cuts, but Potter missed five before his victory last weekend. His recent form might be uninspiring but earlier this year he made eight consecutive cuts with two top-25 finishes.

There is further encouragement when we look at his performance stats. Anderson sits 37th on tour for birdie average but with many of the tour’s star names absent this week, he improves to the equivalent of 15th position.

The tour rookie quotes Steve Stricker as one of his golfing heroes and what better place to make a name for himself then at the John Deere Classic, a tournament Stricker has made his own in recent years.

At 750/1 (Bet365), Mark Anderson is a long-shot but with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish he is not a forlorn hope.
