John Deere Classic Tips: John Senden

There aren’t many players in the field who make more birdies than the 2006 champion.

The equation at the John Deere Classic is relatively straightforward – make as many birdies as possible. Last season TPC at Deere Run was the 11th easiest course on the PGA Tour and the average winning score over the last five years has been 20-under.

To win this tournament you need to go deep into the red and there aren’t many better at doing that than John Senden. In this weakened field he ranks third for ‘par-breakers’, only Ben Crane and Zach Johnson have made a higher percentage of birdies and eagles in 2012.

A winner of the tournament in 2006, more recently he finished T12 in 2010 to suggest a repeat victory isn’t out of the question. The 41-year-old Australian also arrives fresher than most having enjoyed a long break since his T10 at the US Open last month.

Although not the most prolific winner, he rarely puts in a bad performance. With four top-tens already this year, I’d be surprised if he wasn’t near the top of the leaderboard this weekend. At 40/1 (Bet365) back him each-way with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
