John Deere Classic: Doug Ghim

Statistically a good fit for TPC Deere Run. Not long but straight hitter, with excellent touch around the greens. Ranked 12th for GIRs and should create plenty of birdie opportunities.

Still early into his PGA Tour career and with the pandemic disrupting the schedule, Doug Ghim lacks course experience at TPC Deere Run but he did manage one competitive round in 2018 before withdrawing.

A single round of 73 is not much to go on but stylistically he is an excellent fit. He’s not a long hitter but is straight and hits plenty of greens; he is currently 12th in GIRs on Tour and 30th in strokes gained tee-to-green. Throw in an excellent short game and he is reminiscent of Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson, who both enjoy great records at this event.

The 25-year-old is enjoying a good season, he’s got himself into contention over a few weekends without really threatening to win yet. It’s all good experience and he should put it to good use against a weaker field and on a course he should love.
