Safeway Open: Adam Schenk

Best finish of T14 here in 2018 and consistent driving an asset at Silverado. Hasn't missed a cut in last six starts and that includes four top-40 finishes, suggesting his game is in good shape.

The new PGA Tour season gets up and running with the Safeway Open and although there are no Korn Ferry graduates to get excited about at least the lack of stellar names opens up the tournament. Scoring is generally low with 16-under the average winning score over the last five years but Silverado can pose a few challenges. Most of these are off the tee, the course is twisting and tree lined and therefore it is no surprise to see excellent drivers like Brendan Steele and Emiliano Grillo win here.

Adam Schenk ranked 41st in strokes gained off the tee in the season just gone and he is the type of player who should do well here. His course record is a modest MC-14-MC but he only missed the cut by one shot on his last visit.

Schenk didn’t make it beyond the Northern Trust but that was his sixth consecutive cut in a row and a T12 at the Barracuda Championship is evidence of what he can do in a weaker field.

A solid ball-striker and a reasonable putter there is no outstanding facet to his game but he’s the type of all-rounder who should go well at this venue.
