Frys.com Open Trends

CordeValle 15th

We look at the trends of past winners to see who can challenge for victory at the Frys.com Open.

We head to California for the revamamped Fall Series which marks the start of the new PGA Tour season.

The tournament is now in its seventh year and fourth at CordeValle Golf Club, a par-71 course of middling difficulty. It has huge greens that average 8,300 square feet but they are protected by hazards and bunkers.

Let us look at the last three Frys.com Opens for clues:

Top-60 putting average
More often than not, the Frys.com Open is a putting competition. Last year’s winner Jonas Blixt ranked second for strokes gained putting on tour, whilst 2011 champion Bryce Molder ranked third.

Top-60 in sand saves
Bunkers offer the course some protection from being torn apart and the last two winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for sand saves.

Top-60 on tour for scrambling
The last two winners of the Frys.com Open ranked inside the top-60 for scrambling but like sand saves this is heavily influenced by putting ability.

Players that fit all three trends:

Jonas Blixt 25/1 Paddy Power
Jimmy Walker 30/1 Paddy Power
Patrick Reed 40/1 Paddy Power
Bryce Molder 45/1 Bet365
Ben Martin 66/1 Ladbrokes
Brian Gay 125/1 Betfred
William McGirt 150/1 Betfred
Stuart Appleby 175/1 Coral
James Driscoll 250/1 Coral

The Frys.com Open marks the start of the new PGA Tour season therefore we have included any player who ranked inside the top-30 on the Web.com Tour for the same trends.
