Farmers Insurance Open Tip: Wyndham Clark

Best result of the season with a T18 last week; which could have been even better if he hadn't found the water on Sunday. Hits it high and long and is a good fit for Torrey Pines.

One interesting statistics tying together the last nine winners of the Farmers Insurance Open, is that they ranked in the top-60 for apex height with their drives. Torrey Pines is a long course, so it helps to shift the ball but perhaps the lack of roll (the course is never firm at this time of year) means your need to travel through the air to make the course manageable.

The big hitters often populate the apex height statistic but there is a new name i’m interested in - Wyndham Clark. The 25-year-old snuck through the Web.com Tour last season, finishing 25th on the money list but he was a player who impressed me early in the season and has the game to succeed at the highest level.

His results in the wraparound season read 33-54-57-MC-65-MC-18, which isn’t too bad for a rookie and he was going really well at the Desert Classic before back-to-back double bogeys halted his charge on Sunday.

Ranked 10th on tour for driving distance, he is long, putts well and makes plenty of birdies. His problem is inexperience and he makes too many mistakes to be a regular contender at this stage of his career but Torrey Pines looks a nice fit as does the 400/1 and 7 places at 1/5 odds.
