Evans Scholars Invitational: Jordan Niebrugge

Talented youngster has been quiet on tour but arrives on the back of an encouraging T27 at the Knoxville Open on a layout that wouldn't have suited his power-game.

The last time the Glen Club hosted a Web.com Tour event was 2008, the winner was Kris Blanks whilst Gary Woodland and Marc Leishman missed the cut. It’s difficult to take much from an event over a decade ago but the course is a par-72 and measures a shade over 7,200 yards. The winning score was 16-under which puts it in the easy/moderate category.

Betting on the Web.com Tour can be tricky but there’s a few players i’ve been keeping a close eye on and one of them is Jordan Niebrugge. A talented amateur he’s shown glimpses of his huge potential on the professional circuit with a win on the PGA Tour Canada last year. Life on the Web.com has been harder, not helped by some woeful putting but his game is on the up.

Niebrugge has made his last two cuts and a T27 in the Knoxville Open was impressive because the tight, classic layout wouldn’t have suited his power game.

Ranked 33rd in ball-striking there is plenty good tee-to-green and 75th in putting average isn’t a disaster although 30.27 putts per round on a low scoring tour is sub-optimal.

If Niebrugge can build on his performance last week, where he only made 5 bogeys (T9) then he could be on course for a top-10 or more very soon.
