European Open: Alexander Bjork

Enjoying consistent year and arrives in Germany on back of three consecutive top-30 finishes. Weakness is his driving but that isn't so important this week where the focus is on approach play.

The Green Eagle Golf Course hosts the European Open for the third time and it’s a venue that i’ve struggled to get to grips with. Last year’s renewal seem to favour neither the straight nor long hitter and the picture wasn’t much clearer in 2017. Looking at the data for those at the top of the leaderboards, it seems that it doesn’t matter how you drive you ball as long as you hit greens and make putts; that makes it a ‘second-shot’ course in my book.

Alexander Bjork finish a fairly nondescript T53 on debut in 2017 but it’s the sort of course that should suit the Swede. Runner-up at the British Masters last year, he is capable of competing amongst strong European Tour fields, and this is one with the likes of Xander Schauffele, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar over from the States.

Bjork’s form has been good of late, he’s only missed three cuts all year and has finished 23-20-28 on his last three starts. He’s not far off top form and looks a fair bet at 40/1 with 8 places at 1/5 odds.
