Donald sets pace Again

Donald shot a 64

The world number two has continued his recent blistering form.

Luke Donald recorded his joint best ever score on the European Tour in difficult conditions to lead the BMW PGA Championship on -7. Last week’s runner-up in the Volvo World Matchplay is hoping this is the time he finally claims the coveted world number one spot. Donald is 7/5 with bet365 to claim the prestigious title, leading as he does by two shots from 18-year-old Matteo Manassero who is 8/1 with WilliamHill.

Lee Westwood, the man Donald is trying to overhaul at the top of the rankings, shot a disappointing 72 to finish eight shots back after only one day. The bookies haven’t quite given up on the current top dog just yet though; he is a best price of 22/1 with Boylesports to win.

Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie rolled back the years with a fine opening round of 69. Skybet still offer 125/1 on the Scot claiming a remarkable win at Wentworth.

On the other side of the pond, Jeff Overton leads the way after one round of the Byron Nelson Championship on -6. He is 15/2 with SkyBet, two shots clear of favourite Dustin Johnson who is 13/2 with Boylesports.
