KC Golf Classic Tip: Justin Lower

In rich vein of form with three top-20 finishes in last four starts. Has played this event three times with a career best T43 last year. Currently sixth on the tour's all-around ranking.

Last week we saw three in-form players fight it out in Nashville and there is another hot player to keep onside. Justin Lower has finished T35-2-T12-MC-T19 on his last five starts and his result match his underlying numbers.

The 30-year-old ranks in the top-10 for driving accuracy and GIRs, he is not short either averaging 301.7 yards off the tee. Throw in a hot putter (15th in putting average) and you have the recipe for low scoring. That is what is needed this week at the Nicklaus Golf Club where scoring is traditionally low.

I’ll be honest I don’t know much background on Justin Lower, he’s 30 but has only had 67 starts according to the OWGR. His early career was spent knocking around on minor tours but he has experience of this event. He missed the cut in 2016 and 2017 but finished a respectable T43 last year.

He therefore knows this course better than the others but if you need a non-sporting reason to root for Lower then perhaps it is worth noting that he lost both his father and brother in a car accident in 2005.

In 2014 he received an invite from Jack Nicklaus to play the Memorial, he missed the cut but perhaps the Nicklaus name will bestow glad tidings again on Justin Lower this week.
