Crowne Plaza Colonial Tips: Pat Perez

Dangerous on a course offering plenty of birdie opportunities. Arrives after a season’s best T9 at Byron Nelson.

When it comes to a tournament where you need to make a bucket-load of birdies , Pat Perez should always be on your short list. Ranked 15th for birdie average on tour, it is his strongest metric.

It is no surprise his last tour win came at the Bob Hope Classic in 2009, where he recorded, what was at the time, the lowest 36-hole score in PGA Tour history.

Although Colonial isn’t a complete pushover, Perez has enjoyed similarly good results here. In his last four visits, he has three top-10 finishes with a best round of 63 in 2010.

The 36-year-old is starting to come to the boil with a T9 at the Byron Nelson last week, his best finish of the year. If the putter gets hot then he could take some beating.

Several bookmakers go 55/1 but take the 50/1 with Bodog. They are offering an extra each-way place, with ¼ odds for a top-six finish.
