CM Network Hospitals Classic Trends

Mickey Mouse Course

The final event of the year on the PGA Tour and there is plenty to play for. We look at the trends of past winners.

The Fall Series ends this week with the Children’s Miracle Network Classic at the Walt Disney Resort. The tournament is hosted by the Magnolia course, but every competitor has one crack at the adjacent Palm golf course. In one guise or another Disney have put on a PGA Tour event since 1971 so there is plenty of course form.

Looking back over the last five years, the winning score has averaged almost 21-under, but there are two ways of skinning this tournament. Robert Garrigus (2010) and Davis Love III (2008) used big hitting to overpower the course, whereas Stephen Ames (2007 & 2009) and Luke Donald (2011) used accuracy.

These are some trends that stand out from past winners:

Top-60 on tour for par breakers.
The last three winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for par breakers. Looking for a winning score of 21-under, you have to make birdies or eagles.

Top-60 on tour for scoring average.
The field is weaker than a regular PGA Tour event but the cream still rises to the top. Four of the last five winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for adjusted scoring average.

Top-30 on tour for driving distance or GIRs.
Three of the last five winners ranked inside the top-30 on tour for one of these metrics. You either make birdies by carrying the trouble or hitting lots of greens.

Players that fit all three trends:

Robert Garrigus 14/1 (Bet365)
Brendon De Jonge 16/1 (Bet365)
Ryan Palmer 35/1 (Bet365)
Greg Owen 60/1 (Skybet)
