Byron Nelson Tips: James Driscoll

Finished T8 last year and has two top-10s in his last five tournaments.

After enjoying an exciting amateur career, which included a first round 68 at the 2001 US Masters, James Driscoll hasn’t quite hit the heights in his professional incarnation. Twice defeated in a play-off, he still waits for his first PGA Tour victory. In a season that has already seen 20 different winners, perhaps he is due his turn.

Apart from a missed cut at The Players, his recent form has been good with two top-10s since the start of April, in Houston and at Quail Hollow.

His course form is also encouraging. He recorded one of his best finishes of 2011 at the Byron Nelson, with a sparkling 66 on Sunday propelling him up the leaderboard to T8. It was the third consecutive time he made the halfway cut at the event.

Even accounting for his poor showing at Sawgrass, the 34-year-old is 14-under par for his last 14 rounds. At this testing venue, he will not need to go deep into the red to be competitive.

At 110/1 (Bet365) we could be in for another surprise winner, back him each way and get ¼ odds for a top-five finish.
