Byron Nelson Tip: Branden Grace

Trinity Forest hosts for the first time and this in-land links plays to Grace's strengths. Hasn't missed a cut in an eternity and some good finishes in strong fields of late.

The Byron Nelson is a tricky event to weight up this year because it moves to Trinity Forest Golf Club. Looking at the reviews of the course it is quite a departure from the standard PGA Tour fare and is more akin to a US Open track. Built on a former landfill there are no trees and is best described as an inland-links. Visually it reminds me of Erin Hills and Chambers Bay and that won’t suit everyone.

However, it should suit Branden Grace. Winner of the Dunhill Links and a two-time winner of the Qatar Masters he’s shown form on these sort of layouts before and lest we forget he was one bad drive away from possibly winning the US Open at Chambers Bay.

The South African is a prolific winner and although he’s not done a great deal in 2018 he’s yet to miss a cut this calendar year. His form coming into this event is 30-8-29-24-46 but that includes two WGCs, the Masters and The Players. The field is nowhere near as deep in Dallas this week and although that effects his price he’s the best value of those near the top of the market.
