Open Championship: Webb Simpson

Made the cut in last 10 majors and career best T12 at Carnoustie last year. Excellent putting, short game and fourth in scoring average on PGA Tour. Recent form good; T2 in Canadian Open.

Webb Simpson won the US Open (2012) early into his major career but the 33-year-old now has a solid body of work behind him.  Simpson is 10/10 in cuts made in majors a run that started at the 2017 US Open and he is trending in the right direction at the Open Championship. His T12 last year at Carnoustie was a career best and he is 6/7 in cuts made.

Having suffered immediately after the anchoring ban, Simpson’s putting is a strength again as he ranks 22nd on tour for strokes gained putting this season. The rest of the game is in good shape too. He is ranked in the top-20 for approaches and around the green, something he will rely on this week with large run-off areas around many of the greens at Royal Portrush.

Most importantly, Simpson is ranked fourth on tour for adjusted scoring average but is 34th in the betting. His Open Championship record doesn’t make him less likely to win and his current form is good. He recently finished second at the Canadian Open and a T16 at the US Open puts him in the mix again.

At 80/1 he is a cracking each way bet with Bet365 paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
