British Open Profile: Brandt Snedeker

Got off to a flyer last year by posting scores of 66 and 64 on the opening two days.

Best Odds: 45/1 (PaddyPower)
Age: 32
World Ranking: 8
Best results in Open: T3 - 2012

Open Record:

Another American who took time to adapt to the unique challenges of British links golf as he missed his first three cuts. But the 2012 FedEx Cup winner figured out Lytham in some style last summer when he opened up with rounds of 66-64 to tie Nick Faldo’s 36-hole Open record. Sadly he couldn’t maintain that electrifying standard and he slid down to T3 after going 73-74 at the weekend.

Form:

Has pretty much carried on from where he left off in 2012 and currently sits third in the FedEx standings in the States. Snedeker won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after consecutive seconds at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Phoenix Open. A T6 followed at the Masters where he tied for the lead heading into Sunday. He has seven top-10 placings from 14 PGA events this season.

Verdict:

Is hoping to become the third 32-year-old first-time major winner of 2013 and it wouldn’t exactly be a big shock if it happened. One of the US big guns he will have learnt a lot from last year’s run at Lytham. If the conditions stay tranquil, and if his putter is at its legendary hottest, then it could be a big week for the man from Nashville.
