British Open Profile: Adam Scott
Suffered heartbreak in this event a year ago, but bounced back with Augusta glory in April.
Best Odds: 22/1 (Boylesports)
Age: 32
World Ranking: 4
Best Results in Open: 2nd - 2012, T8 - 2006
Open Record:
He took a while to adapt to links golf, missing three cuts on his first four visits. The Aussie found his feet after that though with five finishes of T27 or better from 2006-2011, but it will be 2012 he is entirely remembered for. He led throughout only to blow a four-shot lead with four holes remaining on the Sunday; he closed with four bogeys to finish second.
Form:
He started the season pretty late but quickly found his feet; a final round 64 at the WGC Cadillac Championship propelled him to a T3 finish. But the best was very much still to come. Scott showed nerves of steel to first force a play-off with Angel Cabrera, and then birdie the second sudden-death hole to claim the US Masters title.
Verdict:
A contender. The 32-year-old has shown unbelievable character to bounce back from his Open despair of 12 months ago to claim the Masters in a tense finale. He is proof of the adage that most players will have their time if they keep putting themselves in position; Scott has finished in the top-10 of majors nine times, five of which have been since 2011.
