Andalucia Masters: Richie Ramsay
Course record is 3-29-11 and his straight-hitting is well suited to Valderrama. Missed cut last week but has three top-15 finishes in his last five starts and shot 67 in losing cause last Friday.
The Andalucia Masters is played at Valderrama Golf Course and the venue has a huge bearing on my pick this week. The famous Spanish venue is tight, tree-lined and lends itself to a course specialist like Ramsay. Last year he finished T11 at the course and back in 2011 he finished third. The Scot doesn’t hit it far but he’s straight (45th in accuracy) and his last win on tour came at the Golf du Palais Royal, which provides a similair test.
Ramsay started the year slowly but in the last couple of months he has three top-15 finishes including a fifth at the British Masters. Last week he missed the cut but fired a 67 on Friday to highlight his well-being. He is trending in the right direction and has the skill set to go well this week.
