Alfred Dunhill Links Tips: Emiliano Grillo
Hit 90% of greens in regulation at the Open D’Italia and if a few putts drop he’ll go close.
Emiliano Grillo is one of the most exciting players on tour right now and if he could putt he’d be the best.
In only his second year on the European Tour, the 21-year-old has nine top-25 finishes and arrives in Scotland in the midst of a purple patch.
In his last five tournaments the Argentinean has finished T6-T18-MC-T11-T4 but that doesn’t tell half the story.
In the four tournaments where he made the cut he hit 85%, 72%, 79% and 90% of GIRs. He ranks second for GIRs over the entire season and tee to green has few peers.
The reason why he is yet to win is because he struggles on the greens but I think it’s just a matter of time before his putter gets hot.
Because of the Pro-Am format, Grillo will be able to attack generous pin positions and if he sinks a few putts he will go close at 66/1 (Stan James). Back him each-way and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
