Dunhill Championship: Jack Singh Brar

Finished T26 on course debut last year and enjoyed a solid rookie season on the European Tour. Finished strongly with a T8 in Portugal to retain card and pressure is off for first time in months.

The new European Tour season gets up and running on Thursday and there are a couple of potential angles to exploit. Those graduating from the Challenge Tour have their first chance to make a mark upped in grade but the bookmakers are clued up on these ‘lesser lights’. Matthew Jordan would be one that interests me but at 35/1 - no thanks.

The second angle to exploit are the unheralded South Africans but there are too many of them and i’m sceptical of the standard on the Sunshine Tour. However, nestled in-between them all is Jack Singh Brar at a massive price.

Regular readers will know i’m a big fan of the Englishman and he showed great courage to finish T8 on his last start the Portugal Master and retain his playing rights. For the first time in several months he can play with the pressure off and Leopard Creek should be a good fit.

Singh Brar is one the straightest hitters on tour (20th in driving accuracy) and finished T26 on his course debut last year; it would have been a top-15 finish but for a 6-6 finish on Sunday.

The 23-year-old can put his experience to good use and with a year spent acclimatising to the European Tour he’s got an edge over plenty of his rivals.
