14th Jan 2019 | Abu Dhabi Championship

Abu Dhabi Championship Tip: Andrea Pavan

Enjoyed a fabulous 2018 where he gained his first European Tour win. More importantly he backed this up by finishing season second in SG with approaches and sixth with SG putting.

The Abu Dhabi Championship has produced some funky winners over the years (as well as some top-class champions) and perhaps some of the world’s best can be found a bit rusty this early into the season. If Andrea Pavan were to win a tournament of this magnitude it would be a shock - but should it be given his form.

During the second half of the season there weren’t many better than him on the European Tour. From the Scottish Open he went on a run of finishes that read: 14-6-1-MC-20-5-16-22-33-11-22-6.

A prolific winner on the Challenge Tour in his youth, he finally made his big breakthrough at the Czech Masters and it was well deserved. The Italian finished the season ranked second on tour for strokes gained with approaches to the green and 11th in strokes gained putting; a lethal combination.

It all suggests that Pavan is the real deal but still underrated by the layers.
