Verdict: Any bookmaker offering a cashback in the first goalscorer market is being generous. Moldova haven’t scored a goal since October 2011 and that was against San Marino. If the hosts continue to fire blanks we narrow down half the field of potential first goalscorers.

The problem is deciding which England player to go with. Steven Gerrard is covered by the cashback, therefore excluding the goalkeeper we have nine players to choose from. The Liverpool midfielder is 7/1 to score the first and/or the last goal of the game giving us approximately a 25% chance of a refund.

By all accounts, the pitch at the Zimbru Stadium is not the best, with a uneven six-yard box. Slick passing movements are unlikely to succeed, so a set piece is probably England’s best chance of scoring. John Terry and Joleon Lescott are both sensible picks but I’m going with Terry due to his better scoring record at international level.
