Football Raises the Olympic Curtain

Suarez will play for Uruguay

A day before the Opening Ceremony, a host of big names will be action as the men's football gets underway.

Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s female footballers got the Olympics off and running with a 1-0 victory over New Zealand and the hosts are 12/1 (WilliamHill) to go all the way. Hotly fancied USA (5/2 Coral) survived a scare at 2-0 down before beating France 4-2.

On Thursday it’s the men’s turn with Team GB again rated as a 12/1 shot for gold with Bluesquare. Stuart Pearce’s side were given the runaround by Brazil (6/4 Boylesports) in their final warm-up match but will hope to fair better against Senegal in their opener.

Other teams to watch out for are Spain (5/2 Coral), who have included three of their Euro 2012 champions, and Uruguay (7/1 Ladbrokes) who have Premier League star Luis Suarez in their ranks.
