Post Race Analysis: British GP

Pirelli made the headlines at the British GP but when tyres weren't exploding there were some good performances that went unnoticed.

With so many different race strategies, we have analysed lap times to get a better picture of the raw pace of each car. We have compared the best lap time for each driver when on the same tyre compound and broken down the race into ‘stints’ to compare cars on similar fuel loads.

Stint 1

Sebastian Vettel benefited from Lewis Hamilton’s mishap on lap 8, whilst Nico Rosberg showed good pace despite a poor start.

Stint 2
british gp stint 2
This stint could be the turning point in the season. For the first time all year, Mercedes were able to show good pace without destroying their tyres. Nico Rosberg was able to match Alonso and Vettel’s lap times.

Stint 3
british gp stint 3
Confirmation that Mercedes were quick as Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton clocked fast lap times. It must be noted that Fernando Alonso showed much better race pace than he did in qualifying, which is a recurring theme with Ferrari.

Summary
Put aside the debacle of the tyre blowouts and this could be the weekend when Mercedes got back into the title race. For the first time all year they carried their qualifying pace into the race without suffering excessive tyre wear.

Lewis Hamilton (16/1 Betfred) and Nico Rosberg (33/1 Betfred) might not be out of the drivers’ championship quite yet.
