European Grand Prix Tip: Number Of Finishers

A dull European GP in prospect

We would have won this bet in each of the last three years. Looks overpriced again.

After the thrill of the Canadian GP, be prepared for a more sedate affair. It is almost impossible to overtake on the Valencia street circuit. With teams able to use the track for winter testing, there is nothing the drivers don’t know about it.

With most of the exciting variables of racing removed, apart from perhaps Lewis Hamilton, the betting should be straightforward. At such a well known track most drivers manage to get round unscathed. In the last three years of racing at Valencia, at least 85% of the field have always finished. If that percentage were applied this weekend then 20 cars would take the chequered flag.

Skybet are going 10/11 that more than 19.5 cars finish and those are great odds. It is a bet that would have won every year F1 have raced at the circuit. Even with the added excitement of DRS and KERS, three of the seven races in 2011 have seen 20 or more cars finish.

It all adds up to a boring spectacle, perfectly acceptable for a winning bet.
