Button Prevails in Canadian Epic

Jenson Button

After four and a half hours of stop-start racing Jenson Button clawed his way back from last place to win.

There were periods during the Canadian Grand Prix when fitting a rudder appeared to be the best strategy. Such was the intensity of the rain, the race had to be suspended after 25 laps.

Either side of the delay viewers were treated to a spectacle. McLaren teammates Button and Hamilton collided on lap eight, forcing the latter to retire. It was the start of a busy afternoon for the stewards as only 17 cars finished the race.

Button was in the thick of the action again after the restart, colliding with Fernando Alonso which ended the Spaniard’s race. The Briton visited the pit for the sixth time in the afternoon and with 20 laps to go was last in the field. What followed was a miraculous recovery as the 2009 champion scythed threw the pack, aided by a combination of correct tyre choices and safety cars.

Long time leader Sebastian Vettel surrendered his advantage on the last lap when he spun after being caught by Button. The German finished second with team mate Mark Webber in third.

Despite that last minute mistake Sebastian Vettel extended his lead in the drivers’ championship to 60 points and remains 1/8 to win the title. The biggest market mover is Jenson Button, now sitting second in the standings as a 25/1 chance. It was also a good result for the Betting Bias F1 tipster who highlighted Button as a value bet at 80/1 three weeks ago.
