Bahrain GP Tips: Daniel Ricciardo

Enjoyed a career best P7 last weekend and has finished in the points in 6 of his last 12 races.

Fernando Alonso took the plaudits with victory at the Chinese GP last weekend but the real star was Daniel Ricciardo.

The young Australian shocked the grid by qualifying in sixth and followed up by finishing the race in seventh, his best finish in F1. Normally such results are considered a fluke – but this wasn’t.

If you examine Ricciardo’s average lap times, he was never more than 0.8s behind the leaders and his times were incredibly consistent. He didn’t benefit from crashes or gamble on strategy, his Torro Rosso just had raw pace.

In truth, the result wasn’t completely unexpected. Since the Belgium GP last year, Ricciardo has finished in the points 6 times in 12 races but the bookmakers have been slow to react.

Ricciardo is 7/4 (Bet365) to finish in the points this weekend and looking at his short term and medium term results he looks a decent bet. I’d price him up nearer evens, which leaves us a nice chunk of value.
