Sprint Horse Of The Year: 6f

I'm a dreamer

Our sprint expert casts his vote.

The much stronger of the two sprint divisions. There was plenty of exciting and high quality Group One action to enjoy.

Six Furlongs Top Performances

= 1st Dream Ahead (Betfred Sprint Cup Haydock 3rd September 2011)
= 1st Hoof It (Betfred Sprint Cup)
= 1st Bated Breath (Betfred Sprint Cup)

There were several unsatisfactory Group One sprints this year. The Golden Jubilee was run on soft ground with a big draw bias and the July Cup was run at a slow early gallop causing plenty of interference.

Thankfully we had the Betfred Sprint Cup to establish the pecking order. Run on good to firm ground at a decent pace the best horses came to the fore. A nose and a head separated the top three.

Honourable Mentions
Delegator started the season well winning the Duke Of York Stakes but the injury prone horse runs best after a long layoff. Look out for his first start next year. Deacon Blues finished the season with five straight wins and looks sure to make his mark in Group One company next year. Sirius Prospect finished the year with four straight wins, including a listed race on the last day of the season. Dean Ivory says this three-year-old is the best horse he has ever had. He is a hugely exciting prospect.

Six Furlong Horse Of The Year: Dream Ahead
Three Group Ones and still undefeated over six furlongs - the gong has to go to Dream Ahead. His season only started in June but he made up for lost time with wins in the July Cup, Sprint Cup and Prix De La Foret. His speed ratings were consistently good and his will to win marks him out as a star performer.
