US Masters Tips: Charl Schwartzel
The 2011 champion has six top-ten finishes in his last eight stroke-play tournaments.
Charl Schwartzel succumbed to the pressures of being defending champion last year, finishing T50. It wasn’t a complete surprise given only three players have successfully retained their title. Out of the spotlight this time round, the South African can bounce back to form on a course that is tailor-made for his game.
Schwartzel is a long hitter and a decent putter, the two main attributes you need at Augusta. He also arrives in cracking form. In his last eight stroke-play tournaments he’s finished: T3-1-2-T3-T9-T16-T4-T22.
The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and I expect a bold showing. At 25/1 (BetVictor) he is a solid each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish, but thanks to BetVictor’s generous concession we are guaranteed our money back if either Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy win.
