Top Batsman Betting: Kumar Sangakkara

You can’t bet in the top batsmen market at this stage without recognising the danger of your team getting knocked out and ruining it. I’ll nail my colours to the mask early on – I’m against England.
Beset by injury and poor form, England have battled to the quarter finals on empty. There has yet to be a match where all departments have been working and that won’t be good enough to beat Sri Lanka.
The reason why I’m at pains to focus on England as a team is because if they get knocked out Trott and Strauss will not add to their tournament runs. They currently lie second and third in the run scorers table.
My selection Kumar Sangakkara is leading run scorer with 363 runs and at 9/2 he represents an each way bet to nothing. Coral pay each way on the top three. If we assume the English can’t add to their runs beyond the Sri Lanka game, they will drop out of the reckoning.
For Sangakkara to finish outside the top three, it will need a South African like AB de Villiers (an injury doubt) or Amla to score enough runs to overhaul him, even though they start 45 runs behind. In short, if Sri Lanka beat England it is very unlikely for Sangakkara to finish outside the top 3 and we get our money back. With a bit of luck and one score of note he could go on to win the entire market.
