Women's Wimbledon: Winner of 2nd Quarter Tip: Lucie Safarova

Women's Wimbledon: Winner of 2nd Quarter Tip: Lucie Safarova

A semi-finalist in SW19 last year and a finalist at Roland Garros recently proving she has a game for all surfaces.

Last year there was a Czech winner at Wimbledon and one of Petra Kvitova’s compatriots could go deep this time around.

Lucie Safarova is something of a late bloomer in the women’s game having entered the top ten for the first time in her career at the age of 28. She has climbed as high as number six in the world after reaching the final of the French Open but we shouldn’t dismiss her as a clay court specialist.

The leftie’s powerful serve is a real menace on grass and one of the main reasons why she reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2014. At best odds of 5/1 (BetVictor), Safarova is an enticing price to win her quarter again this time around.

The main obstacle in her way in Maria Sharapova (11/8 Betfred) but the Czech has the psychological edge having ousted the Russian in straight sets at Roland Garros just weeks ago.
