Venus Can End 'Serena Slam' Hopes

It's easy to forget that Venus has won as many Wimbledon's as her sister. The pressure is all on the world number one and she looks vulnerable.

Even if the odds were only based on the head-to-head record between the Williams sisters, Venus should not be anything like a 19/5 shot (Boylesports) trailing as she does 7-4.

Furthermore, the slightly older sister won the last time the siblings met in 2014 - 6-7 6-2 6-3.

But it’s based on this Wimbledon Championship where we really find the value in backing the underdog. Whereas Serena so nearly crashed out to Heather Watson, Venus’s progression has been routine. She is yet to drop a set and the stats show why.

The 35-year-old has rolled back the years by winning a greater share of her points on both first and second serve compared to the world number one.

Perhaps most significantly, Serena produced 33 unforced errors in round three to Venus’s 16. It’s little wonder that even the favourite has pointed out that it’s not her playing the better tennis as things stand.

The pressure is all on the Williams chasing history and we should back the pressure to tell all things considered.
