US Open Women's Each-Way Tip: Flavia Pennetta

Last year's semi-finalist often saves her best tennis for the Big Apple so is worth the risk at enormous odds.

The women’s game has a habit of inviting extravagant long shots given its frequently unpredictable nature and we have a doozy of a gamble for the US Open which starts on Monday.

Flavia Pennetta somehow finds herself at 300/1 with Sportingbet despite showing quite a fondness for the Flushing Meadows courts down the years. The Italian has reached at least the quarter-finals in three of her last four appearances in New York.

In 2013, she actually made the semis after defeating the likes of Sara Errani and Simona Halep, before Victoria Azarenka finally ended her run. This year she has already made the quarter-finals in Australia before going all the way at Indian Wells in March.

At 32-years-old, the world number 12 is the same age as tournament favourite Serena so we shouldn’t be put off at such a huge price. We will be paid out at 1/2 odds by Sportingbet if Pennetta reaches the final.
