Fed Exit Opens Door for Murray

Federer is out.

The world number one's surprise defeat means Murray will now face Tomas Berdych in the US Open semis.

A shock four-set defeat for Roger Federer has seen Andy Murray cut to a best price of 21/10 with BetVictor to win the US Open. The British number one only just survived a major scare of his own as he clambered back from a set and 5-1 down against Marin Cilic.

Federer’s conqueror Tomas Berdych is now 12/1 (Boylesports) to go all the way with Novak Djokovic still the strong favourite at nothing longer than 5/6 (Sportingbet). The Serbian next faces Juan del Potro (16/1 Sportingbet) while David Ferrer (33/1 Sportingbet) and Janko Tipsarevic (100/1 Boylesports) complete the quarter-finals tonight.

Meanwhile, the bookies think Serena Williams is unstoppable at a best price of 1/3 PaddyPower to win yet another Grand Slam title. Her main rivals appear to be Victoria Azarenka (5/1 Sportingbet) and Maria Sharapova (12/1 BetVictor) who clash in the semi-finals tomorrow.
