Men's Wimbledon Tip: Novak Djokovic

Djokovic: Still feels invincible.

When you consider how short Nadal's odds were for the French Open this looks like a reasonable price for the Serb.

If Rafa Nadal was less than evens money to win the French Open then I would regard Novak Djokovic as still a small slice of value at best odds of 13/8 (Betfred) to win Wimbledon.

Forget clay. On that surface Nadal has reigned supreme for many years. But what we see year after year, decade after decade, is that performance on the red surface of Paris bares little indication to what will happen on grass.

On all surfaces other than clay, Djokovic has been utterly dominant for 18 months. The Serb has won all four majors played outside of Roland Garros since the beginning of 2011. If Nadal is the main rival to the 25-year-old retaining his crown then let’s reflect on the fact that the Spaniard hasn’t won a non-clay match between the two since November 2010. He lost seven in a row at one point.

It looks even less likely that anybody else will stop Novak. Roger Federer was soundly beaten by Djokovic in Paris to make it six defeats in seven for the Swiss in the head-to-heads. Andy Murray is struggling for form and it would be miraculous if he even got to play the favourite.

All things considered, a second consecutive Wimbledon title and a sixth Grand Slam victory is very much on the cards for the top player on the planet.
