Wales Grand Slam On The Cards

Wales have the most talented squad and a favourable fixture list.

Wales might have trouble beating teams from the southern hemisphere but north of the equator they are in a different league.

In years to come we might look back at this Wales team as a ‘Golden Generation’ - they have won three championships in six years, two Grand Slams and supplied 15 of the victorious Lions squad.

Since Italy joined the Six Nations, the fixture list has increased in influence on the outcome of the championship. Nine of the last 14 winners have enjoyed a favourable fixture list, playing three home games and only two away. During that period there have been seven Grand Slams, only Ireland in 2009 played three away games.

Wales have the best team in the championship and the advantage of three home games, starting with Italy visiting the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Warren Gatland has almost his strongest XV available for the tournament opener, with the added bonus of being able to rest Sam Warburton against Italy.

It is almost impossible to look beyond Wales and they are a good bet at 6/1 (Boylesports) to do the Grand Slam.
