Six Nations Tips: England Grand Slam

A stunning victory over the All Blacks doesn’t look like a false dawn when considering England’s form over the past 12 months.

England endured a bumpy 2012 but finished it in style with a win over World Champions New Zealand. It might have been two months ago but the victory shouldn’t be underplayed, it was a terrific performance, one of England’s finest.

The truth is that it shouldn’t have been unexpected. England were one win away from a Grand Slam in last year’s 6 Nations and ran South Africa close in all three of their summer Tests. Winning positions were also thrown away in the autumn internationals against Australia and South Africa before victory over the All Blacks.

England are close to being a very good team and worthy favourites at 2/1 (Stan James) to win the 6 Nations championship. However, our odds can be improved by backing England to win the Grand Slam at 11/2 (Paddy Power)

There have been eight Grand Slams in the last 13 years, which translates to an 8/13 chance. If you assume England are going to win the tournament at 2/1; they should be a 3.9/1 chance to do so with a Grand Slam (2/1*8/13).

With Paddy Power we get odds of 11/2 on England winning the Grand Slam. It adds up to terrific value.
