York Tips: Furia Cruzada

York Tips: Furia Cruzada

Her speed has been blunted on a soft but encounters fast turf for the first time. John Gosden enjoying a 39% strike rate in August.

John Gosden’s string are in rampant form, running at a 39% strike rate (9-23) in August and yet one his horses can be backed at 18/1 in the 3.40 York.

Furia Cruzada has an interesting history, she is a Chilean bred horse and spent he early career in Argentina. A 3-time Group 1 winner in South America she is clearly useful but it’s difficult to see how she stacks up with Europe’s best.

Early results have been mixed. She ran a cracker to finish 2.25 lengths behind Grendisar on the all-weather but is yet to get her head in front after four starts. There were mitigating circumstances for her last two runs though, both were on soft ground whereas she raced predominately on the all-weather in Argentina.

Her main attribute is a turn of foot, which is why she’s enjoyed such success on an artificial surface. At Lingfield only Grendisar ran a quicker closing sectional and last time out she outsprinted Endless Time by 0.24s but unfortunately started her run from too far back.

On a fast surface her speed should come into play and should at least reverse the placings with the Godolphin horse. That might still not be good enough to win the Yorkshire Oaks but it makes her the better bet at 18/1.
