York Tip: Vardon Flyer

His race experience (without a win) counts against him in the market but he bumped into a seriously good horse at Carlisle and lost nothing in defeat. Handles soft ground.

Vardon Flyer is a big price for the 4.05 at York because he’s run three times. Normally that education would be deemed and advantage but in this field the book is based around potential. I think that underrates his chances.

Vardon Flyer has improved with every run and last time out at Carlisle he probably bumped into a Royal Ascot horse (and winner) in the shape of Coase. In defeat Vardon Flyer earned an impressive sectional adjusted speed rating of 83 and it is worth noting that he did all the donkey work up front and they covered more ground by coming to the nearside rail.

All that was achieved in soft conditions, which he faces again today. He has raced more but still has potential and at 14/1 is a must bet.
