York Tip: Syphax

Former Acomb winner who has struggled this season but races off an attractive mark as a result. Now goes in cheek-pieces.

At the start of the season I thought Syphax had the potential to become a smart miler. He won the Acomb as a juvenile and had speed figures to back at up his form; coming from rear to win the Group 3 with the fastest closing sectional by 0.33s.

Unfortunately in 2017 he’s failed to live up to the hype and is now running in a handicap off double figures. Last time out he was beaten six lengths in a similair type of race but it was a step in the right direction.

Syphax runs in cheek-pieces for the first time and although some might see it as a desperate roll of the dice, it could pay off because the raw ability of this horse is not in doubt.
