York: Dexter Belle
Made all at Pontefract and mightily impressive. Set a sound early gallop but just kept going. Fastest closing sectional by 0.64s despite early exertions and only smart horses can do that.
The 3.40 York is a decent contest but the top-two of the market look overrated. Winter Power and Acklam Express arrive with sky-high ratings but I think it overplays their ability. The exciting horse in the race is Dexter Belle.
She romped home by 5.5 lengths at Pontefract but the clock told us more than this visuals. She set strong early fractionals, clocked the fastest closing sectional by 0.64s and ran a quick overall time. She was basically fast-fast-fast on the clock and that only comes from being a decent horse.
The way she carried herself at the finish suggests there is more to come with experience; it was only her second start. She could be quite special.
