Yarmouth Tips: New Year's Night
Returns after a 431-day absence but worth the risk because had previously looked progressive and ran well when last seen at Ascot.
James McDonald and Charlie Appleby have teamed up to good effect over the last few summers enjoying a 21% strike-rate (7-33) and £18.70 level stakes profit and they are worth a second look in the 6.45 Yarmouth.
New Year’s Night makes his return after a 431-day lay-off but before his absence he was turning into a useful handicapper and might still retain that ability.
Last time we saw him, he went down by a short-head at Ascot but was by far the best horse on the day. Held-up in rear behind a steady gallop he flew home, clocking the fastest closing sectional by 0.7s. Completely unexposed on turf (that was his only start on grass) he could be a good deal better than a mark of 93.
Unfortunately we won’t know the effects of his lay-off but at 15/2 (Betfred) he is worth the risk.
