Wovlerhampton: Rayyan

Rayyan is favourite for the 5.10 Wolverhampton but i’m surprised he is not shorter in the betting. He is the youngest horse in the line-up, least exposed (4th start) and well treated with a handicap mark of 57.

Last time out he finished second over course and distance with a performance that deserves upgrading. The winner of his division, the race was won in a time 0.16s faster than the preceding handicap over the same trip despite a much more sedate early pace. It was that steady gallop that undid Rayyan, who pulled hard through the early stages of the contest before delivering a powerful closing burst. He ran the fastest closing sectional by 0.32s and was the only horse to make up ground from off the pace.

In defeat Rayyan earned a sectional adjusted speed rating of 63 and nothing in the field has topped 60 in recent months. He is well drawn and should win this.
