Wolverhampton Tips: Novalist
Did well to get within a length of the winner last time after setting a furious gallop from a wide draw over a trip that stretches him.
Novalist is something of a Southwell specialist but he put in such a huge performance last time we have to capitalise before he shows his hand.
The 7-year-old finished third, beaten by 0.75 length but I don’t think the market understands what a huge run he put in.
Sent to the front from a wide draw, he used up plenty of petrol to get the lead and proceeded to set a furious gallop.
The finishing speed was 94.7% of the overall speed, which means he was slowing down at the finish, understandable given the strong gallop.
Nevertheless, Novalist kept going and only gave way in the last 100 yards. A huge effort given that the pace and trip stretched his stamina to the limit.
Dropped down in distance and with a more even pace, he can win the 5.30 Wolverhampton at 5/1 (BetVictor).
